The Irish Hard of Hearing Association was started in 1986 by a small group of hearing impaired people. They had met at a lip-reading course and had kept in touch by holding social evenings every month.

They found that by contact with others they were able to share their problems and fears. They discovered that others had the same problems that they had and learned by sharing how to cope with them.

Today the Hard of Hearing Association is growing all the time and extending further out across Ireland
