The Irish Heart and Lung Transplant Association (IHLTA) is a voluntary organisation made up of heart, lung, heart/lung transplant recipients, families and supporters.
It is recognised by the Department of Health and Children and it is a registered charity.
Mr. Freddie Wood, FRCSI, National Heart and Lung Transplant Programme at the Mater Misercordiae University Hospital is the association's President.
There are seven heart transplant recipients on the committee who are happy to receive your telephone calls to answer any queries or questions you might have.
Aims and Objectives
To provide support, help and information to all heart transplant recipients and their families, pre and post operation.
To identify and maintain donor awareness initiatives and to work with the Irish Donor Network in promoting and improving all areas of organ donation and transplantation.
To provide and furnish help and support to the Director of Transplant Surgery at the Mater Misercordiae University Hospital, and to the National Heart and Lung Transplant Unit.
Services
Heart Children includes a self help group for bereaved parents and also caters for grown-up heart children. Help for parents of "Down's Syndrome" children is also available.
Heart Children has played a part in improving facilities for children with CHD within Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin.
