ALONE was founded in 1977 by a Dublin fireman, Willie Bermingham. In the course of his work Willie frequently came across abandoned and neglected old people living in squalid conditions. He was so outraged by the incident of an old man crawling in to a packing case to die on his own that he set up the ALONE organisation.

Helping elderly people in need is the founding principle of ALONE and has guided our work over the years. Two decades later our objectives remain exactly that they were when the organisation was founded. These are to:
