It is laughable that at this point in time on the poll a total of 76% believe that the salary should be less than €200k and 48% think it should be less than €150k. This is a post in charge of an organisation with 100,000 employees and approx 20 billion euro budget. In addition as a consultant within the system Drumm would earn approx €240k on a public-only contract.

Get real.

Who asscesses Brendan Drumm? On what is it based? What is the qualification for the bonus

Is it based on a steering wheel? He is in charge of 100,000 staff but not on his own. It is a team.

Get real.

Margaret McCarthy.

JamesH,

What is laughable is the following:

His "post", as you say, should not be thought of as being only in charge of 100,000 employees....but being responsible for the good health of the entire community...and....since Harney, at difficult political times, wishes to 'defer' to the HSE...then he must be responsible...or, if not, then she must be....they can't have it both ways...can they??

€20 billion budget you say?....I Think, for example...many parents of cystic fibrosis kids would argue that priorities/promises aren't at the forefront of Mr. Drumm's or Ms. Harney's thinking re budgets!!

The argument...which all apologists make for these people; that they could be earning this and that in other areas is, frankly, insulting to those people...young and old....who have patently/patiently been waiting for promised systems that...if they were wealthy...like most politicians....they wouldn't need.

Children/young adults with CF have died in the last few years waiting for promised dedicated rooms in hospitals that never came in time to save them.....what the hell argument is there to dispute that fact??

6 figure sums for paper-pushers...because they 'might' get paid more elsewhere?? + bonuses?? when children are dying....!!! Surely I can't be the only one disgusted with this kind of crazy, greed in this country???

I understand that Prof. Drumm sent a multi-page letter to his employer to explain why he deserved his 70 thousand euro bonus.

Obviously he believes that he deserves his current salary plus his bonus.

As it is we who are providing the funding for this expenditure, perhaps his employer, our servant, the minister, would convince us that our money is being spent wisely.

  shem  Posted: 23/10/2009 20:34

Great job. Try to be constructive. It makes life so much better for us all. Thank you.

  Jupiter  Posted: 23/10/2009 20:45

If Drumm was paid on his performance he would be hungry. He has no idea what is going on in any of the hospitals he is in charge of. Too many staff on the top floors and not enough on the ground. Too much waste of money on non-tendered contracts, and no one is responsible.

Get someone in there who might know what they are doing.

Agree entirely with Jupiter!

  dolly  Posted: 23/10/2009 23:02

Its laughable alright!!  They should get paid nothing!!!  The health care system is a mess!!  Children would run it better!!  They don't care about the country!!!  They are only there to make money!!!  Not to work!

  Gerry  Posted: 24/10/2009 00:09

Prof Drumm is Not worth the what he is being Paid.  NO MAN or Woman should be paid the Salary he is getting not to mind the BONUSES,

The bulk of the Money spent on Health is spent at the top rung of the ladder right down to Admin at the Hospitals and Health Centres in the Country, No wonder we are in trouble and the Government want to claw back at the Disabled and Unemployed It's a Discraceful situation when we at the bottom of the barrel have to go without a rise in the budget when the gap is getting wider - the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

They say Robin Hood Robbed the Rich to Help pay the Poor???? and now the Government are Robbing the Poor to help the Rich who made all the money during the Tiger Economy and will not give to help the Recession.

GERRY.

Agree with others on Mary Harney's cop out and on Drumm not doing his job.  People want results in hospitals not papers published or waiting for papers to be published.  If they cared about the public health system a bit more and a bit less about their own fat pockets, we might have some sort of hope, but the reality is that we don't and I don't see it changing. Disgusted!!

  Russel  Posted: 25/10/2009 22:27

Russell here.Innocent

Totaly agree they are not worth sixpence, all of them should be gathered up and put in a cattle boat and dropped off in the Bush in Austrailia. I think most of the time they seem to be dealing with numbers rather than human beings. A lot of them havent got a clue what we as people are going through trying to fight cancer? I could say alot more but it would not be published.

Thank U.

I just voted E) The whole HSE System is a a complete shambles. They end up making people sicker than they already are due to lack of appropiate intervention. They are letting persons die while on waiting lists. "Elective Waiting Lists Patients" cancelled to be admitted when they ring the Ward that morning of their admittance to Hospital. Indeed why does this come about? Because of an emergency most likely that came from their A&E Dept.,

It be not good enough how they treat public patients that they have to be near death's door before they admit them. I agree with Russel's post in all it's entirity.

Jupiter is right. What gets me is why we need a "CEO" for the "HSE"  at all considering we havre a minister for health. Aare we goign to get a "CEO" of finance and of tourism and of The Arts and Gaeltacht as well maybe!

Where did this idea of bonuses for paperpushers come from anyway. Are they not getting a big salary to do their job? If anyone deserves a bonus its the frontline staff who actually save peoples lives, instead of the fat cats who are all looking after one another.Try to get Drumm to give a straight answer and all you get is "thats an issue for the minister" ask Harney and its " thats an issue for Prof, Drumm. I cannot interfere." Its like that sketch out of Fr. Ted and would be just as funny if not so serious. And best of all WE are letting them get away with it instead of creating holy hell to get rid of them.
