Very happy with the treatment received by my son in the children's ward at the Bon Secours hospital in Cork. The nurses couldn't do enough for him and Mr O'Leary clearly explained the procedure and after care in a clear and concise way. I placed my son's care in their hands and they looked after him extremely well

I was very disappointed with the level of care provided after surgery, also had to make several visits to hospital in order to meet the consultant involved to get test results. Also, more attention should be taken of elderly patients waiting in the waiting rooms for procedures.

Although the nursing staff and care assistants were outstanding, I unfortunately met some management personnel who were truly some of the most rudest people I have ever met. I

Very disappointed with this hospital and especially the care I received by my consultant. I was badly treated and ill informed. Tests were done but no results given and when I enquired, I received an ill tempered barrage from the doctor. No way would I go back there. Brought it to the attention of the hospital management in July. It is now October and I have had no significant response received other than an acknowledgement.

I found Mr Shinkwin and his staff excellent I found the staff of St Martha's ward excellent particularly the staff on duty on the night of 10 Sept 2012. I was very disapointed with the discharge procedure- very poorly informed about the aftercare required post- sinus surgery. I was told to take solpadol for pain relief and this I could get over the counter-this was not the case I had to go to my GP and pay for a visit to get a precription for pain relief. I had to contact the Hospital the day after my discharge to get information on aftercare. The nurse I spoke to was very helpful.

Major problems in Warfarin clinic, sometimes there is a need for staff to bring extra chairs, often people are sitting on top of magazine tables, the appointment system DOES NOT WORK,sometimes upto 15 people waiting ahead of patient turning up at appointed time.while patient is given a number, and the number is shown outside of the first room that they need to enter, but outside the second room is a number which Does Not apply to them,so the patients end up trying to keep track of who is next.Sometimes a patient can lose out unknowing on their turn. No automatic entrance doors, steps outside main door, parking at a premium at frequently even for simply dropping off patient. Fact is a large number of patients are older people, often on crutches, walking aids, wheelchairs or walking sticks and very little thought seems to be given to this fact.

Attended the specialist breast clinic, the care was seamless and fantastic. I was seen and had mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy on the same day and was booked for surgery which was done a week later as a day case.

My experience in the Bons really opened my eyes to the health sector. This private hospital is more akin to a convalescent home than to an acute hospital. In my opinion, if your condition does not jump off a scan or standard blood test, this hospital is ill-equipped to help you. The bedside manner of some of the consultants was also nothing short of outrageous. They did not listen to you and beleive they know your body better than you do. The non-consultant doctors were all too young and too inexperienced. At weekends the hospital effectively shuts down. I would rather end up on a trolley in the CUH and wait my turn rather than putting my life in the hands of the Bons.

I just cannot say enough about this hospital. During my week-long stay on St. Elizabeth's ward, the care I received was simply outstanding and it was an absolute pleasure to be taken care of in such an exemplary manner.

I have always found the Bons in Cork a great hospital to attend as a patient. I have had all my four children there and have also had various procedures. I live over 70 miles from the nearest large hospital and would choose the Bons every time, if I had a choice.

A close relative was in the Bons for a six week period. The nursing staff and the medical doctors were absolutely outstanding. However, we had a bad experience with one young health professional. Having travelled 200 miles after working all day to visit my relative (we thought he was going to die as he has advanced cancer),I was barked at and was so upset I started crying. This person had zero empathy and could have handled the situation a lot better. They are a let down to an otherwise well run hospital.

The Bons Secour Cork is a wonderful hospital with excellent patient care. The nurses are kind and caring and Dr Corr and Dr Allo along with their surgical team are professional and handled me with kindness and understanding. This is what all medical professionals should aspire to. A listening ear, a caring nature but most of all a belief in the patient and his/her genuine symptoms and complaints.

Pleased overall. Nurses very helpful, hospital very clean. Dr.Shinkwin was excellent. I do think that there should be some discount for car park as its quite expensive, as you need to stay with your child.
