Prostate gland

Does sexual intercourse affect the prostate gland?

The Doctor says...

The prostate gland is involved in the physiology of sexual intercourse. The gland secretes a fluid during intercourse that joins with other fluid from the seminal vesicles. The sperm, which are produced in the testicles, are suspended in this fluid. The fluid maintains an alkaline environment for the sperm and also contains a sugar known as fructose, which provides energy for the sperm. Men who have undergone vasectomy still ejaculate but the difference is that the ejaculate only contains the fluid. There are no sperm in the ejaculate because the Vas Deferens has been cut. In other words the prostate continues to produce fluid after a vasectomy.
