Genital rash

I have a rash around the genital area, which is very itchy at night. Is this something that I should be concerned about?

The Doctor says...

The most likely cause of your symptoms is a fungal infection of the skin, which is not serious and is easily remedied. The genital area is particularly prone to such infections because of heat and perspiration. Sometimes tight fitting trousers or underwear can be a contributing factor. Tights may also be a factor. You should visit your GP to have the rash identified properly. It is most likely that the doctor will prescribe an anti-fungal cream or tablet to eliminate the rash.
