Semen - blood present?

I have blood in my semen. I have had this for approximately 1 to 2 months. I have no pain whatsoever. I have not changed sexual partners. What should I do?

The Doctor says...

I would advise that you visit your GP in order to have this matter fully assessed. It is never normal to have blood in the semen and it needs to be evaluated especially when it has been present for several months. The blood could be caused by inflammation, trauma or obstruction anywhere within the male reproductive system. In other words the problem could exist within the urethra, testicles, epididymis or prostate. Sometimes blood in the semen can result from a systemic illness and not be simply due to a disorder of the genitourinary system. The absence of pain is reassuring but should not lull you into a sense of complacency. This matter needs to be investigated.
