Most would support sunbed ban [Posted: Fri 11/09/2009]
A majority of the public would support a total ban on sunbed use, according to irishhealth.com's latest viewers' poll.
Recently, Health Minister Mary Harney stated that she would like to see a total ban on the use of sunbeds in Ireland to reduce the risk of cancer.
Speaking at a major cancer conference in Dublin, the Minister said she has asked her Department to see if such a ban was possible, as EU approval would be required.
We asked our readers whether they agreed with a ban on sunbed use.
Sixty-five per cent said they agreed with an outright ban, while 30% said they would support a ban, but only for children under 18 using sunbeds.
Only 5% said they would oppose a sunbed use ban. Over 400 viewers voted in the poll.
