Hi all, my baby who is now 18 months has suffered from ezcema from 3 months. I brought him to see a specialist three weeks ago as he was getting worse as he got older and doctor just kept prescribing steriod creams which i hate using on him. The dermatoligist recomeneded that i bath him daily, smother him in emulisifying oitment in the bath and when he gets out cover him in paraffin gel. (be careful if using this as baby is a slippery an an eel, ensure you have bath mat) Her advise was baths are good for the skin once they are well moisturised. During the day use a emulsifing cream that works for u. I keep going back to silcoks base no matter what crems i try that seems to work best for my baby. I can see an improvement in his skin so far, so fingers crossed it continues. He is still itching at night, but defintley not as severe. She also recomeneded using Zirtek which is a antihistimine to help control the itching at night when he has a flare up. This advise cost me 220euro so hope it helps you. Also make sure all baby clothing, sheets etc are cotton, cut off any tags from clothing that maybe rubbing against the skin. Good luck

DGK, Great to hear. That is a very fast result so I would stick with it.
With ezcema, like psoriasis and other skin conditions it can all be trial and error in finding something to relieve symptoms but it seems your G.P. is on top of things which is great to hear.
Hope the improvement keeps up and that the problem is solved in double quick time.
Best wishes,

I am following Doctor's advice. And can see a small improvement after only 1.5 days - I was just wondering is anyone else had followed this treatment for ezcema.

DGK, Why don't you do what the G.P. advises first and see what the results are, if any?
At least your Doctor is basing his advice on new research so he/she seems to be doing his best.

My 7 month old son has eczema. Yesterday I brought him to the doctor who advised me to bath him 3/4 times daily. And cream him up each time. I've looked at other posts where people have been advised not to use water on skin? The Doctor said that new research has shown that the more bathing you do the better. There seems to be too very different and conflicting views about this I was looking for others opinion.
