My nephew is just gone 6 months old this week and he has kidney reflux.  He is in hospital at the moment and has been in a number of times.  His kidneys are 4 and 5 which is the highest.  He has an appointment with a consultant in March.  Can you please advise us on what to expect and if you have been through it can you give us any advice?  Would you advise pushing for the operation or what are the odds of him growing out of it?  Also at what age on average does a child grow out of it?  We really appreciate any information you can give us.Wink

my daughter whom is 4yrs old was diagnosed with reflux last december. she has grade 3 on the right and 4 on the left. she had the STING 3 weeks ago and they are looking for her in 2 weeks to see if it worked. she constantly has an infection an her throat and sores on her lips. in the last week i noticed she is starting to urinate on herself. when i ask her why she urinates on herslef..she always replies by saying it comes out on its own. I brought her to the doctors to make sure it not an infection and its not!

i though it was 3 months to see if it worked.

( does this meen something is wrong?? Has the STING worked??)

my son has reflux too. he lost one of his kidneys when he was 4 because of scarring. his other kidney is working 40% and he still has reflux grade 3 and he's 7 now.

We have been told she has grade 3 on one side and grade 2 on the other and has scaring on both kidneys. the function is ok, 45% on one side and 55% on the other.

My son turned 1 last month. His kidney problem was detected during ultrasound while I was pregnant. He was confirmed with reflux in both kidneys at about 3 months old. One was grade 3, the other grade 4. He had the STING done on both kidneys when he was 6 months old, it takes 3 months to take effect and find out if it worked or not. It fixed one of the kidneys 100% but didnt improve the other at all. He had the proceedure done again 3 months ago so we are now waiting to see if its worked, we are back to Tallaght with him on 12th Feb so fingers crossed this will be it!!!

hi i lost one kidney when i was 8 months old, spent ten years up and down to our ladys hospital. without them i would not be here today. however im 31 years of age now, had scarring on the remaining kidney and looking at dialysis as its down to 25% function. no matter what, dont give up, keep fighting till you can fight no more.

I wudnt recommend surgery as it could leave u with a lot of probs in later life - i was six when i had the operation, am now 34 and facing dialysis after all the scaring .
perhaps its due to something else but i always think its from the operation i had.
its hard to know wots best. some people probanly have no probs later, all i can speak from is experience.

I HAD SURGEY WHEN I WAS SICK . I AM NOW 33 AND HAVE NEPHROTIC SYNDROME-PROTEIN LOSE FROM THE KIDNEYS, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS MPGN, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SURGERY AS THE KIDNEYS WOULD BE SCARRED, ANTIBIOTICS COULD POSSIBLY CLEAR THE PROB

My daughter was 6 when we were told she had reflux. She had surgery in the Tallaght hospital. She was very sick at this stage, underweight, listless, hair falling out, no appetite. We noticed an immediate improvement and would totally reccomend the operation. It\'s over in 10 mins but the child does dramatically improve. She is now 8 and is thriving
