VHI v Bupa Ireland compare the rates

Deciding where to purchase private health insurance can be a very difficult issue.

The various plans on offer from the two main insurers, VHI healthcare and Bupa Ireland are detailed and quite complex. So, which plan is right for you both in terms of benefits and cost.

A report comparing health insurance products on offer from VHI Healthcare and BUPA Ireland was published in January 2004.

The report details the main benefits provided by the VHI and BUPA Ireland in a simple, brief format. It was produced by the Health Insurance Authority.

The Health Insurance Authority was set up in February 2001 and is the regulatory authority for private health insurance in Ireland.

(Take note that from March 2004, Bupa Ireland increases its rates by 8.25% for all contracts with renewal dates after that date. VHI Healthcare usually increases its prices each September for all contracts with renewal dates after that date.
