Hi all.had the merina coil inserted 7 weeks ago in hospital as the neck of my womb is very hard to reach.we were extra careful for the first month until i got my period..however went to my gp a week ago to have a smear and my 6 week merina check and the gp could not find it...as you can imagine the first thing i thought was the two weeks we hadn't been using extra protection.my doctor has assured me that this can happen and i am now awaiting a call from the hospital to arrange a scan to see if it is still there.i am trying not to panic but my period is now 4 days late.i hyave spent approx €400 in the last year trying different pills as i get awful mood swings on them and spd symptoms (symphasis pubis dysfunction) and was hoping this was going to be the end of it.now i have the worry of being pregnant again.

has this ever happened to any of you?

Hi there, I got my marina coil replaced yesterday, when my GP inserted the coil It caused an unbearable pain on my left side. My GP said it must have touched the fallopian tube. should it be this painful just to touch the fallopian tube? It still hurts when I lean forward or depending on the way I'm sitting? Can someone enlighten me on this problem. I'm worried it could be some other problem with my fallopian tube.

regards

Naido

hi carbo

Sorry if this is too late but i had marina coil fitted yesterday and so far so good. I'm 33, have 2 children, had 2 c sections quite close (Feb 2008 & March 2009) and because I never dilated in either case my gynae doc though it would be best for me to go under general anasthetic because she thought it might be v uncomfortable done without it, She also killed 2 birds with the one stone and did smear test while i was out. I had to go to theatre to have the procedure done, which is normal. When I came to I was aware that I had something done down below but no pain, took difene last night and feel grand today, small bit of bleeding yesterday but nothing today. I think it was best option for me cause having 15 month & 3 month babies I would forget to take the pill and this seems v reliable and i can just forget about it.

Hope this helps, Regards.

Hi, ive just found this page and its very interesting. i had the mirena coil inserted back in January. i have had no problems with it so far but last week, i got my first gush of blood which lasted about 8 hours. it felt like i was haemorraging. i went to my GP and he said that it was a build up of blood on the lining of the womb and it just released . It shouldnt have happened and got a full check up and everything was fine, like turning of a tap, it just stopped . so i left happy enough to find that three days later it has happened again. im getting a bit dubious that thats all it was and now im just wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be? ive been getting regular periods since i got it inserted and now im just in limbo waiting to see if it will happen again ...

lennie thanks for your comment, it did indeed prompt me to go to the doctors and you were right, it is not normal at all. am now taking norethisterone to stop the bleeding (and it is working) and tranexamic acid for pain and to stop bleeding. due to go back again next week to see what on earth has happened. i have had lots of advice from gps over the years, most of which has been conflicting. this time the gp said the merina coil does not suppress ovulation and given that this is my major problem (4 days without being able to even sit down...) i should not have had it. also, she said there are other treatments for endometriosis that are better than mirena so i shall see what she suggests next. many thanks.

No this is not normal. I use the coil to prevent both pregnancy and monthly bleeds. At the moment I have just had another fitted and apart from small scratching sensations all is normal. You need to contact the doctor or clinic where you had the coil fitted/removed as soon as possible., or alternatively your own doctor or A&E department. You may have had a (rare) adverse reaction to the coil itself or the levenestrogel hormones contained in it. Don't ignore the bleeding. It is most certainly not normal.

i had the coil fitted for endometriosis last june. after initially going through several months of non stop bleeding and stuff it seemed to settle down. but recently i have felt ill, had pain back again, and other things that led me to request removal. i had it removed on friday (second attempt - first one no go and i spent 48 hours in bed in pain afterwards and with dirorhea apparently caused by the endo being in the pouch of douglas). last night i woke having flooded and what i have been losing since then is akin to what you lose after having had a baby. is this normal? it hurts, i have sweats too. i thought the coil reduced the endometrium... if so then where on earth has all this 'stuff' come from? its not just blood either. not sure if this is normal. anyone help?
