after reading all the comments regarding diabetes, and smoking, it seems to me that the researchers are all non smoking, because they seem to be totally in controll of their emotions, and could not give a hoot for the psychological pressure of their subjects.who have to undergo daily, if not hourly, pressure to keep their sugars under control.

First I agree with another commentors statement: The reasearchers are definately non smokers. Suggesting that the reduced stress of not smoking would somehow offset the stress of managing a life threatening illness is ridiculous. The real reason people continue to smoke is that for their situation the benefits out weigh the risks. The risks have been blown so out of proportion they are also hard to believe Smokers are very wary of studies that use language like "14 times higher than the risk of either smoking or diabetes alone" These numbers are hard to believe. If true the raw numbers could read 1 per every 100,000 vs 14 per every 100,000. which transaltes to a very minimal risk.

Diagnoised with diabetes a few months ago, it was a relief that I had given up smoking (after 37 yrs) almost a year earlier. The physiological stress my body was under has disapated - as well as the stress I was under for the next fix of nicotine. Stress is relieved by giving up the dreaded fags lads. Do it now! Be not afraid!!!
