Recession causing sleepless nights Nearly one-third of Irish adults have trouble sleeping at night, according to a new survey.
And 14% of all respondents reported that the current economic crisis has disturbed their sleep pattern.
The figures also showed that of those suffering from sleep disorders, 37% had difficulty sleeping every night or several times per week.
When questioned about the reason for sleep problems, 25% reported that work stress was the primary factor and 9% was due to financial worries.
Of those respondents to the survey who suffered from sleep problems, one-third thought that there was nothing that could be done to improve sleep.
The survey was carried out among 1,000 adults by the pharmaceutical company Lundbeck to mark the launch of its new melatonin-based sleeping medication, Circadin. [Posted: Tue 21/04/2009]
