What is life expectancy?

Life expectancy refers to the number of additional years a person of a given age can expect to live, based on the assumption that mortality patterns current at the time of preparation of the table will continue to apply. The figures are a guide and clearly your life expectancy will depend on a variety of factors, including personal medical history, family medical history and lifestyle choices.
