Vertigo - what is it?

Can you give me some information on vertigo? I hurt me neck slightly in an accident and have vertigo ever since. Can you comment on this please?

Vertigo is a symptom and is not a complete diagnosis in itself. The term refers to a triad of symptoms consisting of nausea, a spinning sensation in the head and unsteadiness on the feet. Some people use the term if they are feeling dizzy and I wonder if that is the sense in which you are using the term? If you were using the term in the sense that I have defined then you would need to be assessed in order to establish the cause of the vertigo. The treatment for vertigo may differ depending on the cause. If you are using the term in the looser sense of dizziness then it could very well be explained by the trauma of your recent accident.
