Ingrown toenail-what do I do?

I have an ingrown toenail that has been causing some discomfort for a few weeks. It is not infected but still remains sore. What should I do? Is it worth visiting my GP?

It would be perfectly reasonable to see your GP with this complaint. Alternatively you could visit a chiropodist. If the area was infected the GP would be the more appropriate person to see because you might need antibiotics. Sometimes it is necessary to remove a wedge of ingrown nail and this is a procedure that your GP could perform for you if it were necessary. Donít feel that you might be wasting the doctorís time since ingrown toenail is a common reason for attending the GP.
