Tendonitis - what is it?

I have been diagnosed with tendonitis. Please give some information about this condition.

Whenever you read the letters “itis” as part of a medical diagnosis it simply means; inflammation of that part of the body. Therefore tendonitis means inflammation of a tendon. There are many tendons in the body and they are typically inflamed during repetitive strain such as occurs in sport, manual handling or keyboard use. Tendons are the sinews that connect muscle to bone and are to be distinguished from ligaments, which connect bone to bone. Typical examples of tendonitis would be golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow both of which are described in detail under the general conditions heading on our home page.
