Smear test / when
When is the right time of the month to get a smear test? Is it true that it should be done up to 7 days after a period finishes?
A smear test can be done at any time of your cycle once you have avoided the early days when there may still be traces of blood present from menstruation. If abnormal cervical cells are present they will be there irrespective of the stage of your cycle. As the name suggests a smear test involves the smearing of the sample onto a glass slide, which is subsequently examined under a microscope. If blood cells from menstruation are present they may obscure the cells that the technician wishes to inspect thereby giving an unreliable result. As a general rule most women have the test performed around mid cycle.
