Crohn's disease contagious?

My mum has Crohnís disease. Can I catch it from her?

Crohnís disease, although it does have some symptoms similar to infections such as diarrhoea, is not infectious and so cannot be spread through being in contact with someone who has it. It does run in families and if youíre mum has it then are at an increased risk of also developing Crohnís disease in the future. It does not mean that you will get it and most people donít despite another family member having Crohnís disease.
