Is it normal for the first period after having a baby to be very very heavy?
It is very common for the first period after giving birth to be quite heavy. In fact the first few periods can be heavy but the problem usually subsides after a few months. This may contribute to anaemia especially if the motherís iron stores are low at the end of the pregnancy or if she has experienced extra blood loss during the delivery. If anaemia develops this can contribute to even further blood loss during menstruation. If the problem persists beyond the first couple of cycles it would be worth seeing your GP and having a blood test performed.
