Inverted nipple - cause for concern?
One of my nipples has recently become inverted. Is this a cause for concern?
Inverted nipples are very common and are estimated to occur in approximately 10% of women. They do not pose any health risk although they may pose some difficulty when a woman is breastfeeding. Your question indicates that one of your nipples has only recently become inverted which leads me to suggest that you should visit your GP and have your breasts examined. It is likely that there is an innocent explanation for the inversion but it is important to establish that the underlying breast tissue is free of disease and not tethering the nipple. In summary, bilateral inverted nipples can be safely ignored but recent inversion of one nipple warrants medical assessment.
