Polycystic kidneys - further information?

My child has polycystic kidneys. Where can I get more information on this?

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) means that multiple cysts are present in the kidneys. It is a congenital abnormality and over time the kidney cysts continue to multiply and grow in size. This results in an increase in the mass of the kidneys and over time the kidney function deteriorates. PKD is more common than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and haemophilia yet these other congenital conditions have a higher public profile. I am not aware of the existence of any support or information group for this condition here in Ireland but the Irish Kidney Association might be of some assistance to you. Their website is located at: http://www.ika.ie/. You might also find it informative to contact the American “PKD Foundation” at: http://www.pkdcure.org/home.htm.
