Shaving rash

I'm a 25-year-old male and always get spots on my neck, which are really itchy, especially after I shave. I don't have spots anywhere else. I've tried various shaving creams but to no avail. Can you recommend what I should do?

It is very difficult to advise on skin conditions without seeing the rash however a number of possibilities occur to me. It is possible that you have folliculitis, which is a very common infection of hair follicles. It is usually caused by bacteria that are carried in the nose. The complaint is readily identifiable on inspection and can be eliminated with an antibiotic cream. The spots could also be due to a sensitivity to soap, lotions or aftershave preparations. It would be worthwhile letting your doctor have a look at the rash and make a precise identification for you.
