Acne

I am a teenager and have had acne for the past three years. I have tried various tablets to combat this yet nothing happens. Can you suggest any proven remedy?

Acne can be a very annoying condition that undergoes periodic remission and relapse. It can recur over many years. There is no cure but it can be controlled. The short-term objective of treatment is to clear the skin but the longer-term objective is to ensure that the skin does not develop any permanent scarring. Standard treatment includes oral antibiotics and topical creams and lotions. If the condition is not subsiding despite several months of treatment referral to a dermatologist might be worth considering. There is no quick fix solution for this problem. It is essential that you realise that the condition can relapse and that such relapses are an inherent feature of the condition and may not be due to treatment failure.
