Mosquito repellents -

I am going on holidays soon. Is there anything I can use to prevent getting bitten by mosquitoes? I have creams but I was told there is a plug-in device that deters them.

There are several aerosol insecticides available that can help to clear a room of mosquitoes. There are also several plug-in devices available, which can be effective. It is worth noting that some of the devices used for clearing rooms of mosquitoes contain DDT, which is probably best avoided. Make sure that you read the list of ingredients on the packaging that comes with the device. It might not list DDT but might list dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, which is the full chemical name from which the letters DDT are derived. However these devices do not replace the need to use an effective insect repellent on exposed areas of your skin. I have previously dealt with the subject of insect repellents in two previous Ask the Doctor questions. You can access that information at: and
