Polymyalgia Rheumatica

I have finally been diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica after 12 years of chronic pain and problems with vision. I am on a low dose of prednisolone for the next few months. Will it clear up? I am 53 years old and female.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica causes headache, aches and pains in the joints and muscles without evidence of overt arthritis. It is often associated with Temporal arteritis, which is an inflammatory condition of the Temporal artery. This causes headache and disturbance of vision that can lead to blindness if it is not diagnosed. Steroids such as prednisolone are the treatment of choice. It is usually necessary to take the steroids for several months and the majority of people are able to discontinue them eventually under medical supervision without experiencing a recurrence of symptoms.
