Tooth implants - explain?

Can you give me any information on tooth implants?

Replacing a single tooth with a dental implant requires the insertion of a metal frame into the gum that fuses with the bone in the jaw. The dentist then mounts a replacement tooth on the metal implant. In other words the technique roots the replacement tooth in the jaw just like a natural tooth. It is necessary for the person to have sufficient bone and gum tissue for the implant to be successful. Not every person is suitable for a dental implant. The dental implant is a freestanding unit and is not dependent on surrounding teeth, as a traditional fixed bridge would be. If you are interested in undergoing this procedure you should discuss it further with your dentist to see if you are suitable to have an implant inserted. I should add that the cost is not inconsiderable.
