I am 21-year-old girl, height 67 inches and weight 147 lbs. A recent blood pressure reading was 158/94. Should I see a doctor?
The fact that you have included your height and weight leads me to conclude that you obtained the measurement from a device in a shopping centre, pharmacy or health shop. I have my doubts about the usefulness of a single blood pressure measurement obtained when you were possibly not in a relaxed state. Even in the doctor’s surgery isolated blood pressure readings can be a little high just because of the anxiety induced by seeing the doctor. I would never diagnose blood pressure on the basis of one reading. Your reading is marginally above the upper level of the normal range and would be worth repeating. Given your age I expect it to be normal.
