Bed wetting

My 4 year old is still wetting the bed at night, despite the fact she has been toilet trained since 2½ years. How long is this likely to continue?

By the age of 3½ years 75% of children are dry by day and night. At 5 years 15% of children still wet the bed at night. At 10 years the figure is down to 5% and by the age of 15 years it has reduced to 1%. So your child is not alone and a significant percentage of her peer group share the same problem. The majority of children who wet the bed are perfectly normal and do not have any physical or psychological problem. It may be that the child is experiencing a developmental delay in this specific area just as some children may be late at walking. It would be reasonable to have the child’s urine tested to be sure that the urine is normal.
