Skin tags - treatment?

I have two skin tags one each side of my scrotum. They are painless but during hot weather or exercise can become irritated by my underwear, jeans, etc. Is there any form of treatment available other than surgery?

Skin tags are very amenable to cryotherapy, which is a form of treatment that eliminates the skin lesion by the application of extreme cold. This can be performed in a number of different ways. Some doctors apply liquid nitrogen to the skin tag with a small piece of cotton wool, whereas others have a special cryotherapy instrument with a probe attached that is applied directly to the skin tag. The extreme cold kills the cells that form the skin tag and the lesion simply falls off. This treatment is also used very successfully in the treatment of warts. The procedure is relatively quick and can be performed without anaesthesia. Many GPs are equipped to provide this service. You should make contact with your GP who may be able to provide this service to you and if not should be able to refer you to a colleague who can.
