Microcephaly - explain?

I would greatly appreciate information on microcephaly?

Microcephaly means that the head circumference is smaller than average. The condition may be congenital or it may develop in the first years of life. Microcephaly often occurs as part of a syndrome that arises from chromosomal abnormalities, which means that it may not be the only abnormality present in the child. The smallness of the skull tends to become more noticeable as the child grows older since the face and other parts of the body may continue to grow at a normal rate. The various milestones of development such as speech and movement may be delayed. Arrested mental development is common because brain growth is restricted inside the small skull. Children with microcephaly are at increased risk of experiencing convulsions. There is no specific treatment for the condition. The prognosis varies according to the severity of the associated abnormalities. Life expectancy is usually reduced.
