Sebaceous cyst

I have a lump on the top of my head for a few months. It is perfectly formed, egg shaped and about the size of a 10p piece. It does not resemble a melanoma but I'm a bit worried. Is this a dangerous lump?

This sounds like a sebaceous cyst, which contains a waxy material. They are perfectly benign lumps with no malignant potential. Sometimes they can become infected and develop into a form of abscess. They can be a nuisance and can get sore from your brush or comb catching in the lump. Sebaceous cysts can grow to the size of golf ball but can also regress. There is no need to be worried about this lump but if it is becoming a nuisance it might be as well to part company with it.
