My daughter (aged 3) is due to be admitted to hospital to have her tonsils and adenoids removed and is also due to have grommets inserted. How long is the usual stay in hospital? Will she have pain afterwards and how long will it be before she has fully recovered?
It is unlikely that your child would be in hospital for more than a few days. She will be a little sore for a few days after she has undergone surgery. However, the level of soreness can usually be relieved with simple painkillers. Young children recover extraordinarily quickly from such surgery. On average I would expect that a child in your daughter’s age group would be eating and drinking normally by the end of the week without significant discomfort. Some children can be a upset by the experience of being in hospital and your daughter may be in need of extra comforting for the early days after she returns home.
