Gums bleeding - treatment?

My gums bleed a lot when I brush and my gums are red and sore around some of my teeth. I am using corsodyl daily. Do I need a course of antibiotics?

It would appear that you have gingivitis or gum disease. You may well benefit from antibiotics as an immediate measure however; I would recommend that you visit your dentist for a proper assessment of the overall state of your oral hygiene. It may be necessary for you to have treatment from a dental hygienist, which would involve cleansing of the gums, plaque removal and instruction in proper brushing and flossing techniques. It is reasonable to use corsodyl in the meantime. Sometimes bleeding from the gums can occur for non-dental reasons, which is an additional reason for suggesting that you visit the dentist.
