Medical Q&As

Angina - cholesterol normal?

Is it possible to have normal blood pressure when you have angina and a normal cholesterol level?

Yes it is possible to have normal blood pressure and cholesterol and yet have angina. However you do find in everyday practice that most people with angina have either elevated blood pressure or cholesterol or a combination of both. Other important risk factors for angina would include cigarette smoking, a family history of coronary artery disease, obesity and diabetes. It would be most unusual to have angina in the absence of any risk factor for coronary artery disease. In the scenario you have described it is likely that the person was a heavy smoker or had an adverse family history.
