Night sweats - causes?

Can you tell me what might be causing night sweats? I wake up with perspiration running off my body and my nightclothes and bedclothes are soaking. I've had this condition for two years.

I can only give you the broadest of answers because you do not state your age or sex. The menopause is the commonest cause of night sweats to present in general practice. Sometimes these symptoms can be protracted and persist for a couple of years. Anxiety is another common cause of sweating at night and this is usually accompanied by some daytime symptoms of anxiety. Infections such as TB and brucellosis can also cause night sweats however; an infected person would have additional symptoms and probably be quite ill if such an infection were present for two years. I would therefore consider TB and brucellosis to be extremely unlikely in your case.
