Contraceptive injection - no periods?

I have been receiving the contraceptive injection for the last 2½ years. I have had no problems apart from weight gain of about 1½ stone. My periods stopped completely 2½ years ago. I was due the injection in August but decided not to continue, as I no longer have a partner. To date I still haven't had a period and just wondered when to expect one?

Most women cease to have periods when they have been using the contraceptive injection for several months. This is quite safe and does not have any adverse gynaecological effects. It is also quite common for the menstrual cycle to be delayed for some months after stopping the injection. Since you have only recently stopped the injection it is quite possible that your periods won’t return until December/January.
