Blood in urine - ignore?
I have blood in my urine and would like to know what this could mean?
Blood in the urine is a sign that needs to be medically assessed. The commonest cause of blood in the urine or haematuria to give it its medical title is infection of the urinary tract. The urinary tract comprises the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Haematuria also occurs in cases of kidney stones but in that scenario there is also severe loin pain, which is known as renal colic. Sometimes haematuria can occur as a result of trauma and it has been known to happen in cases of extreme physical exertion. There are several diseases of the kidneys and bladder that also produce haematuria. I would advise that you attend your GP to have this matter fully assessed. On the basis of probability it is likely to be due to infection. Certainly it is not something to be ignored in the hope that it will go away.
