How long does it take the contraceptive pill to absorb into a woman's system?

The contraceptive pill is active in your system approximately four hours after swallowing it. If you commence taking it for the first time on the first day of your menstrual cycle you are protected from becoming pregnant from that day onwards. If you commence taking it for the first time on the fifth day of your cycle the contraceptive effect commences seven days later.
