Medical Q&As

Antidepressant not working?

I have been taking an antidepressant for the past two months but there has been no appreciable improvement in the depression. What should I do?

Antidepressants are very effective drugs but their beneficial effects may be slow to occur. However, I would have expected that you would have experienced some subjective improvement in mood within two months. I would report to your doctor and tell him of your apparent lack of progress. It may be that your current dose of medication is not high enough or alternatively you may need to have your medication changed.
