Medical Q&As

Warts - eliminate them?

How would I go about treating warts or verrucas?

There are several remedies available at your local pharmacy however many of these “over the counter” treatments are time consuming and it can take many weeks of treatment before the warts are eradicated. If the warts are not too big or unsightly it is perfectly reasonable to do nothing and leave them alone because many of them disappear spontaneously within a few months. This should always be considered as an option with young children because wart treatments can be painful. Many GPs are able to perform cryotherapy for warts, which eliminates the wart through freezing. Your doctor’s secretary would be able to tell you if that service was available at the surgery.
