Medical Q&As

Vertigo - does it recur?

I have been receiving treatment for vertigo for the last five days. Will the dizziness go when the 10-day course of medication is complete? Will it keep recurring? Will the condition get worse? I am 59 years.

It may well take the full 10-day course of treatment for the vertigo to clear up. In my experience it can take several days of treatment before there is any initial relief of symptoms. Vertigo can be slow to respond to treatment. However, if it has not cleared up within 10 to 14 days of commencing treatment you should return to see your doctor. Vertigo can recur and some people need to take medication on a continuing basis in order to prevent attacks but this is not common. Sometimes it can be progressive but again this rarely happens.
