Bird flu expert speaks to irishhealth

One of the country's top medical experts on avian flu, Dr Darina O'Flanagan, has given an exclusive video interview to irishhealth.com in which she answers key questions on the subject.
Dr O'Flanagan, who is Director of the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, deals with issues such as the frequent confusion between animal and human avian flu, and a possible flu pandemic, which might be caused by a mutation of the current avian flu virus.

She deals with how our health services and other sectors would cope with an outbreak of avian flu in humans or in a worst case scenario, with a flu pandemic, and what the illness and mortality rates might be.
Dr O'Flanagan also provides information the vaccines and anti-viral drugs.
