Man took 40,000 ecstasy tablets

[Posted: Tue 04/04/2006 - www.irishhealth.com]

Doctors in England have released details of a man who they believe is the biggest user of ecstasy ever recorded. The man, referred to as Mr A, is estimated to have taken 40,000 ecstasy pills in his life.

Prior to this, the highest number of pills known to be taken by one person in their lifetime was 2,000.

The details are contained in a letter to the journal, Psychosomatics. According to this, Mr A, who is now 37, used ecstasy between the ages of 21 and 30. For the first two years, he took five tablets every weekend, escalating to an average daily use of 3.5 tablets over the following three years.

However during the next four years, he took an average of 25 tablets every day. His estimated lifetime intake was put at 40,000.

"After three episodes of 'collapsing' at parties, Mr A finally stopped his ecstasy use. For a few months, he felt as if he was still under the influence of it and suffered several episodes of tunnel vision. He eventually developed severe panic attacks, recurrent anxiety, depression, muscle rigidity, hallucinations and paranoid ideation", the doctors wrote.

He also displayed 'disorientation to time, poor concentration and short-term memory difficulties'. An assessment of his daily functioning skills also revealed major problems.

"Although Mr A was able to fully understand the instructions given, his concentration and attention were so impaired that he was unable to follow the sequence of the tasks required", the doctors explained.

They said that the findings add to the 'existing limited knowledge' of the persistent consequences associated with heavy and regular ecstasy use.

This is BS!!! "DO THE MATH" He took 40,000 pills between the ages of 21 and 30. Lets see, thats 9 years X 365.25 days a year = 3285 days. Divided that by 40000 pills He'd be dead!
