Cheese recall due to E-coli

[Posted: Tue 28/08/2001]

by Deborah Condon

A type of goat's cheese has been recalled by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), following the discovery of E-coli in a sample of the product.

St Tola Goat's Cheese is manufactured by Inagh Farmhouse Cheese Ltd, Inagh, Co Clare.

As a precautionary measure, consumers are being advised not to eat this product with an expiry date of September 8, 2001 or any date thereafter.

The FSAI has also advised retailers and caterers to remove the product from their shelves and kitchens until 'complete investigations' have been carried out.

"E-coli 0157 bacteria contamination has been identified in a sample of this product and the authority is recommending this preventative action until investigations are completed", the FSAI said.

The company involved is fully co-operating with the investigation, it added.
