Focus on sexual health
[Posted: Wed 16/05/2012 www.irishhealth.com]
Sexual Health Awareness Week (SHAW) running from May 28-31, will aim to promote education and awareness of sexual health on a national level.
Run by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) the awareness campaign will include public meetings , debates and interactive workshops which will take place in the College in Kildare Steet, Dublin and which are free and open to the public.
The RCPi has stressed that there are organisations in every county in Ireland ofrering information, medical services, counselling and support in relation to sexual health.
Consultant genitourinary physician and one of the organisers of SHAW Dr Fiona Lyon said in the absence of a national integrated approach to sexual healthcare provision in Ireland, many or organisations are providing extremely valuable services.
"Ireland is not yet where it needs to be in terms of education, prevention and services in sexual health but SHAW is a very welcome step in the right direction."
