The importance of child immunisation

[Posted: Sun 22/04/2012]

This week is European Immunisation Week.

European Immunisation week is a World Health Organization initiative aiming to increase immunisation uptake through increasing awareness of the importance of immunisation in protecting lives and preventing disease, according to the HSE.

In order to mark European Immunisation week, the HSE National Immunisation Office has launched a new guide to the childhood immunisation programme.

The guide aims to remind parents that five visits to a GP are necessary in the first 13 months of a child's life to ensure that they are fully protected against a range of serious diseases.

The guide also stresses the importance, and safety of vaccines and has been developed following consultation with parents and health professionals.

Meanwhile,'s award-winning Child Immunisation Tracker service alerts you to all the vaccinations your children need as they grow. The tracker is also available as an iPhone app.
