Coughlan takes over in Health

Tanaiste Mary Coughlan has taken over the Health portfolio from Mary Harney, who resigned as Minister last night after more than six years in the post.

The new Minister will not be in her post for long, however, as the general election date has finally been fixed, for Friday March 11.

Mary Coughlan will cover both her existing Department of Education in addition to Health for the remainder of the current Dail.

Enterprise Minister Batt O'Keefe today became the sixth minister this week to tender his resignation.

The people of Ireland will stamp her report card on the eleventh of March.
